PRESIDENT OBAMA,  ERIC HOLDER AND JUSTICE DEPARTMENT WON'T ALLOW INDICTMENT OF GROUPS FUNDING TERRORISM. 
During the House Homeland Security hearing last month on the topic of radicalization in the American Muslim community, one exchange between L.A. County Sheriff Lee Baca and Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-MN) concerned the relationship between the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and Hamas terrorist front the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Sheriff Baca told the congressman:

We don’t play around with criminals in my world. If CAIR is an organization that is a quote “criminal organization,” prosecute them. Hold them accountable and bring them to trial.

But according to a high-ranking source within the Department of Justice, who spoke exclusively to Pajamas Media on the condition of anonymity, Sheriff Baca, a long-time supporter of CAIR, was probably already in on the joke.

The joke is that a number of leaders of Islamic organizations (all of whom publicly opposed the King hearings on Muslim radicalization) were about to be indicted on terror finance support charges by the U.S. attorney’s office in Dallas, which had been investigating the case for most of the past decade.

But those indictments were scuttled last year at the direction of top-level political appointees within the Department of Justice (DOJ) — and possibly even the White House.

Included in those indictments was at least one of the co-founders of CAIR, based on “Declination of Prosecution of Omar Ahmad,” a March 31 DOJ legal memo from Assistant Attorney General David Kris to Acting Deputy Attorney General Gary Grindler. A second DOJ official familiar with the investigation independently confirmed these details. Omar Ahmad is one of CAIR’s co-founders and its chairman emeritus. He was personally named, along with CAIR itself, as an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation terror finance trial in 2007 and 2008. During the trial FBI Agent Lara Burns testified that both Omar Ahmad and current CAIR executive director Nihad Awad were caught on FBI wiretaps attending a 1993 meeting of Hamas leaders in Philadelphia.

Dean Boyd, public affairs representative for the DOJ National Security Division, declined to provide me a copy of the March 31, 2010, memo dropping the Omar Ahmad prosecution. Directing me to submit a FOIA request, Boyd did say that “as a general rule, internal DOJ deliberation memos spelling out arguments for or against potential prosecution of any particular suspect are not public.”

Pajamas Media will be filing a FOIA request for all the related documents in this case.

According to my source, the chief reason outlined in the DOJ memo declining to prosecute CAIR co-founder Omar Ahmad was the issue of potential jury nullification. The first Holy Land Foundation trial in 2007 ended in a hung jury. When the case was retried in 2008, all five defendants, former executives of the Holy Land Foundation, were convicted on all 108 counts.

But, according to our DOJ source, possible jury nullification was hardly the primary issue in the DOJ’s scuttling of the terror finance prosecutions. “This was a political decision from the get-go,” the source said.

It was always the plan to initially go after the [Holy Land Foundation] leaders first and then go after the rest of the accomplices in a second round of prosecutions. From a purely legal point of view, the case was solid. Jim Jacks [the U.S. attorney in Dallas who prosecuted the Holy Land Foundation executives] and his team were ready to go. There’s a mountain of evidence against all of these groups that was never introduced during the Holy Land trial and it is damning. We’ve got them on wiretaps. That’s exactly why many of these leaders and groups were named unindicted co-conspirators in the first round of prosecutions.

But from a political perspective there was absolutely no way that they could move forward. That’s why this decision came from the top down. These individuals who were going to be prosecuted are still the administration’s interfaith allies. Not only would these Muslim groups and their friends in the media be screaming “Islamophobia” at the top of their lungs and that this is a war against Islam, but the administration would look like absolute fools. It’s kind of hard to prosecute someone on material support for terrorism when you have pictures of them getting handed awards from DOJ and FBI leaders for their supposed counter-terror efforts. How would Holder explain that when we’re carting off these prominent Islamic leaders in handcuffs for their role in a terror finance conspiracy we’ve been investigating for years? This is how bad the problem is. Why are we continuing to have anything to do with these groups knowing what we know?

“By closing down these prosecutions,” the source added, “the evidence we’ve collected over the past decade that implicates most of the major Islamic organizations will never see the light of day.”

The FBI still has boxes and boxes of stuff that has never even been translated — just like what happened in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. But it’s already been made public that they have copies of money transfers sent by NAIT [the North American Islamic Trust, which holds the property titles of many of the mosques in America -- Ed.] directly to known Hamas entities and Hamas leaders. Those came out during the [Holy Land Foundation] trial. But what if we won the case against NAIT and its leaders and the U.S. government finds itself the landlord to hundreds of mosques across the country? How well do you think that would that play in the Muslim community?

The actions by the DOJ to crush these prosecutions are just another schizophrenic episode in the U.S. government’s ongoing relationship with Islamic organizations, especially CAIR. After CAIR was named unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land trial, the FBI was forced to cut ties with the group. In an April 2009 letter to Sen. Jon Kyl, FBI Assistant Director Richard Powers said that “the FBI does not view CAIR as an appropriate liaison partner.”

And a February 2010 letter from Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich to four congressmen who inquired about the termination of the relationship between the FBI and CAIR — just weeks before the DOJ officially ceased further prosecutions, including of CAIR co-founders — elaborated on the evidence about CAIR that had emerged from the Holy Land trial. Yet, according to my DOJ source, CAIR leaders continue to be regularly received by top DOJ and FBI officials despite the official ban and these statements made to members of Congress.

And just last November, a significant July 2009 memorandum order by Judge Jorge Solis, who supervised the initial Holy Land Foundation trial, was unsealed under direction of the Court of Appeals. It provides the court’s reasons for refusing to remove CAIR and two other prominent Islamic groups, the Islamic Society of North America and NAIT, from the list of unindicted co-conspirators in the case. Judge Solis concluded that “the four pieces of evidence the government relies on, as discussed below, do create at least a prima facie case as to CAIR’s involvement in a conspiracy to support Hamas” (p. 7), specifically naming Omar Ahmad’s part in the conspiracy (p. 6) and adding later that “the Government has produced ample evidence to establish the associations of CAIR, ISNA and NAIT with HLF, the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP) and with Hamas” (p. 15).

As I reported here at Pajamas Media, FBI Director Robert Mueller reiterated these reasons for cutting ties with CAIR before a recent House Judiciary Committee meeting — just two days before The Daily Caller reported that White House officials had publicly praised CAIR.

Adding to the hypocrisy, after the Obama administration scuttled the next round of prosecutions in the Hamas terror financing investigation last March, Attorney General Eric Holder gave the prosecutors and FBI investigators in the Holy Land Foundation case the AG’s Award for Distinguished Service last October for their work in the case.

I asked my DOJ source why they decided to come forward now. The source said:

This is a national security issue. We know that these Muslim leaders and groups are continuing to raise money for Hamas and other terrorist organizations. Ten years ago we shut down the Holy Land Foundation. It was the right thing to do. Then the money started going to KindHearts. We shut them down too. Now the money is going through groups like Islamic Relief and Viva Palestina. Until we act decisively to cut off the financial pipeline to these terrorist groups by putting more of these people in prison, they are going to continue to raise money that will go into the hands of killers. And until Congress starts grilling the people inside DOJ and the FBI who are giving these groups cover, that is not going to change. My biggest fear is that Americans are going to die and it will be the very Muslim leaders we are working with who will be directly or indirectly responsible.

But if the U.S. government publicly acknowledges the terror ties of these groups why do they continue to deal with them?

We tried to do what we could during the Bush administration. After 9/11, we had to do something and [the Holy Land Foundation] was the biggest target. If the mistrial hadn’t have happened, we probably would have gone through the second round of prosecutions before the change in administrations.

To say things are different under Obama and Holder would be an understatement. Many of the people I work with at Justice now see CAIR not just as political allies, but ideological allies. They believe they are fighting the same revolution. It’s scary. And Congress and the American people need to know this is going on.

It remains to be seen how Congress, the American people, and the establishment media — who always seem eager to rise to the defense of CAIR and the other terror-tied Islamic groups — will proceed.

ACT! for America delivers Ground Zero

Mosque petition at news conference

Numerous media outlets, many 9/11 families, and

even some protestors attend!

Yesterday, at a news conference held at New York’s City Hall, ACT! for America

Executive Director Guy Rodgers delivered our Ground Zero Mosque petition,

signed by over 120,000 people, to Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Among the media present were the local Fox television affiliate, Reuters,

Rodgers delivered a statement describing why ACT! for America launched

this petition, that this was not an election year issue, and that the opposition to

the Ground Zero Mosque was not going away. Afterwards he answered several questions

from the assembled press.

Also making statements to the media were Andy Sullivan, founder of the 9/11 Hard Hat

Pledge; Tim Brown, retired New York firefighter and 9/11 survivor; and Rosaleen Tallon,

whose brother, a firefighter, died that day.

"The moving stories told by Andy, Tim and Rosaleen brought tears to the eyes of

many of those who came to watch this news conference," Rodgers said afterward.

"Their pain was a reminder that what ACT! for America launched was a noble and

right thing to do."

Spicing up the event were a few protestors who shouted the typical rants we have

come to expect.

After the event several 9/11 family members approached Rodgers and Lisa Piraneo,

ACT! for America’s Director of Government Relations, to express their thanks for what

ACT! for America has done thus far in our opposition to the Ground Zero Mosque.

"You are helping keep the opposition alive," one of them said.

You, the signers of this petition, made this possible. You are helping keep the

opposition alive. That message was delivered, loud and clear. 

 

On November 18, 2010, ACT! for America will hold a news conference

in front of New York City Hall to announce the final results of our

national petition opposing the Ground Zero Mosque, and to deliver the

petition to Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The stories alongside the mandatory eye-candy featured scandalous accounts of “spying” and “espionage.” But despite the insinuations, the Russian “spies” in question were never charged with spying or espionage. Fox News reported that instead the ten Russians in American custody were charged with conspiracy to commit money laundering and “failing to register with the Department of Justice as Foreign Agents under the Foreign Agent Registration Act (FARA).” FARA, first enacted in 1938 to counter Nazi infiltration, is a disclosure statute requiring entities acting in the U.S. on behalf of a “foreign principal” (in this case the Russian government) to register and make periodic disclosure of their relationship. (Below, Anna Chapman flanked by former Congressman Mark Siljander and CAIR Communications Director, Ibrahim “Dougie” Hooper. More on each follows.) Another U.S.-based entity that has been accused of violating FARA – by the Center for Security Policy and other leading intelligence and counter-terrorism sources – is the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR). The CAIR Observatory.org website (http://www.cairobservatory.org) documents that CAIR has received $6.6 million in cash and loans and $54.5 million in pledges from foreign principals based in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait; has met and coordinated with representatives of those foreign principals on more than 30 occasions; and has carried out over 70 political and propaganda operations on behalf of those same foreign principals. Shortly after 9/11 CAIR released a carefully qualified statement: “We do not support directly or indirectly, or receive support from, any overseas… government.” Unfortunately for CAIR, FARA § 611 (b) defines a “foreign principal” far more broadly than just a foreign government. It can also be a foreign political party, partnership, association, corporation, organization, or even an individual based outside of the United States. For a 72-year-old law, the FARA statute is very much alive and kicking in 2010. We’re seeing it in the news nearly every week now. Underfunded and underestimated, the attorneys in the small FARA office are protecting America’s security, in spite of an increasingly politicized DOJ environment. Just last week former Congressman Mark D. Siljander of Michigan pleaded guilty to violating FARA in connection with his work for a foreign organization; namely the Islamic American Relief Agency, a.k.a. the Islamic Africa Relief Agency (IARA), a non-governmental “charity” based in Khartoum, Sudan. The IARA allegedly paid Mr. Siljander $75,000 in exchange for his lobbying efforts to have its name removed from a U.S. Senate Finance Committee list of terror-supporting organizations. The Siljander case is nearly a point-by-point match for CAIR’s work as an agent for “foreign principals” in the United Arab Emirates in the wake of the Dubai Ports scandal of 2006. As part of a senior CAIR delegation to Dubai in May 2006, Board Chairman Parvez Ahmad stated, “If the image of Islam and Muslims is not repaired in America, Muslim and Arab business interests will continue to be on a downward slide in the US.” CAIR was meeting with Khalaf Al Habtoor and other wealthy Dubai businessmen to solicit up to $50 million in donations to fund a public relations campaign in the US. CAIR’s Ahmad assured the audience, “Do not think about your contributions as donations. Think about it from the perspective of rate of return. The investment of $50 million will give you billions of dollars in return for 50 years.” Within days of the fundraiser UAE Minister of Finance Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum endorsed a proposal to build an endowment property for CAIR in the U.S. CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad said, ‘The endowment will serve as a source of income and will further allow us to reinvigorate our media campaign…” Furthermore, in 2007 CAIR received $325,000 in cash from another “foreign principal” based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia: the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). This mammoth pan-Islamic NGO composed of 57 governments is known for its “10 Year Plan of Action,” calling on all governments worldwide to institute “deterrent punishments” for the “crime” of “Islamophobia.” This is the same OIC that annually sponsors (and passes) resolutions in the U.N. General Assembly to prohibit “defamation of religions” (i.e. Islam). Barack Obama controversially appointed Rashad Hussein as a special US envoy to the OIC this year. The $325,000 transferred to CAIR was earmarked to fund a major OIC conference on “Islamophobia” at Georgetown University. The ten Russian spies acted as sleeper agents for the Russian government. They allegedly received “hundreds of thousands of dollars” from Moscow. They were indicted under FARA by the Department of Justice in 2010. Former Congressman Siljander lobbied members of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee to remove the Islamic Africa Relief Agency (IARA) from their terrorist sponsor list. He received $75,000 from the Sudan-based NGO for his services. Siljander was indicted under FARA by the Department of Justice in 2008, and pleaded guilty in 2010. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has lobbied for “foreign principals” and has conducted dozens of political influence operations in the US on their behalf. We have posted conclusive documentation at the CAIR Observatory website proving that CAIR has received $6,698,454 in cash and loans from “foreign principals” since their founding in 1994. So how close are they to being indicted under FARA? The next few months may tell. On February 2, 2010 Politico.com reported that FBI agents issued a grand jury subpoena seeking internal CAIR documents. Lynn Haaland, an assistant U.S. Attorney in the DOJ’s National Security Division was listed as an “interested party,” indicating that FARA may have been a factor in the investigation. Ten Russians, one former congressman, and CAIR were all paid by foreign donors. The Russians, the congressman and CAIR all followed their paymasters’ orders. The Russians and the congressman got chump change compared to CAIR’s millions in foreign funding. The Russians were indicted and deported. The ex-congressman was indicted and pleaded guilty. In February, the University of California at Irvine (UC-Irvine) sponsored an event featuring Israeli ambassador Michael Oren. Nearly a dozen attendees, one after the other, stood up and disrupted his remarks, in spite of repeated warnings by event hosts.

ACT! for America chapter leaders and members deluged UC-Irvine with calls, complaining about this despicable assault on our cherished rights of free speech.

In a pleasant surprise, UC-Irvine has recommended a one-year suspension of the Muslim Student Union (MSU), a militant Islamic campus group that coordinated the disruptive activities. We say it’s surprising, because the dominance of political correctness on so many college campuses usually precludes such administrative action like this.

Not surprisingly, as noted in the article below (highlights added), the national Muslim Student Association, a Muslim Brotherhood affiliated organization, has “condemned” the recommended suspension. Note how they complain that a suspension will violate the “free speech” rights of Muslims!

MSA National Condemns Suspension of Muslim Student Union

The national headquarters of the Muslim Student Association (MSA) has condemned the recommendation by a University of California official that the it Irvine Chapter be suspended for one year as a result of its members having disrupted a speech by the Israeli Ambassador in February. According to the MSA announcement:

(MSA National – 6/15/2010) – The Muslim Students’ Association National condemns the recommendation for a one-year suspension of the University of California, Irvine Muslim Student Union (MSU) made by the Senior Executive Director of Student Housing due to allegations that the MSU violated sections of the University policy. The allegations arise from a UC Irvine-sponsored event in February featuring Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren. Several UC Irvine students stood up and protested during the event regarding Israeli policies toward Palestinians. The University alleges these students acted on behalf of the MSU, but the MSU repeatedly denies these claims, reiterating that the students acted on their own accord. News reports that the MSU has already been suspended are not true. The Jewish Federation of Orange County inaccurately released that the University’s determination to suspend the MSU is final. According to University policy, though the Office of Student Conduct cannot make a unilateral informal decision to suspend an on-campus student organization. The MSU has filed an appeal to the University following its initial recommendation. While MSA National agrees that dissenting views must be given the respect to be heard, we are concerned with the implications that a suspension of the MSU would have on the rights and freedoms of Muslims on UC Irvine’s campus. The MSU is currently the only student group at UC Irvine that represents Muslim interests and includes over 100 active students and approximately 250 registered student members. Such an action would be unprecedented, unwarranted, and unjust to the larger Muslim community that the MSU serves on campus. We call on the University to reject the proposed recommendation and allow Muslims on campus to preserve their rights to fair representation, free speech, free exercise of religion, and the right to peaceably assemble.

The LA Times, however, reported the following findings of the UC Irvine Student Housing Director:

In making the suspension recommendation, Lisa Cornish, UC Irvine’s director of student housing, found that the Muslim Student Union had “planned, orchestrated and coordinated in advance” an effort to disrupt a speech by Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren on Feb. 8 about U.S.-Israeli relations. The recommendation was made in late May but not made public at that time...

...According to the report, the group’s goal was to “send the speaker a message” and to develop a “game plan” to disrupt Oren’s speech…

...The plan included identifying students willing to participate, drafting scripted statements and urging supporters to attend and cheer each disruption. The plan also instructed students to deny that the Muslim Student Union organized the protest, according to the report.

The group violated university policies prohibiting “fabricating information (or) furnishing false information,” “obstruction or disruption of teaching, research, administration … or other University activities,” “disorderly or lewd conduct” and “participation in a disturbance of the peace or unlawful assembly,” according to the report.

Oren was shouted down repeatedly by Muslim students who stood up and delivered statements such as “Michael Oren, propagating murder is not an expression of free speech.” Supporters cheered as the students were escorted away by police, and each time Oren attempted to resume his speech, another student jumped up with another outburst.

The Times report also cited the following complaints by Jewish groups on campus:

Jewish groups cite several incidents of perceived anti-Semitism on campus, including the defacing of an Israeli flag in a dorm room, the display of a poster equating the Star of David with a swastika, the vandalizing of a Holocaust memorial, and a 2006 program sponsored by the Muslim Student Union titled “Holocaust in the Holy Land” and “Israel: The Fourth Reich.”

According to a Hudson Institute report, the Muslim Student Association was the earliest known public front organization of what would later become the US Muslim Brotherhood and many USMB leaders were active in the early days of MSA.

The MSA is now a “constituent organization” of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), itself a major part of the USMB. Previous posts have discussed important individuals close to the USMB who have emerged from an MSA background such as Mazen Asbahi who then candidate Obama appointed as his campaign Muslim outreach advisor. Asbahi was a former MSA leader who resigned his position after less than two weeks on the job when the GMBDR detailed his ties to the USMB. Nicholas Kafouris, 52, is suing his former school for racial discrimination.

He told a tribunal that he had to leave his £30,000-a-year post because he

would not tolerate the 'racist' and 'anti-Semitic' behaviour of Year 4 pupils.

The predominantly Muslim youngsters openly praised Islamic extremists in class

and described the September 11 terrorists as 'heroes and martyrs'.

One pupil said: 'Don't touch me, you're a Christian' when he brushed against him.

Others said: 'We want to be Islamic bombers when we grow up', and 'The Christians

and Jews are our enemies - you too because you're a Christian'.

Mr Kafouris, a Greek Cypriot, taught for 12 years at Bigland Green Primary School in

Tower Hamlets, East London.

According to Ofsted 'almost all' its 465 pupils are from ethnic minorities and a vast

proportion do not speak English as a first language.

The teacher claims racial discrimination by the school, its headmistress and

her assistant head after they failed to take action about the comments made by pupils to him.

He said there was a change in attitude of the pupils after the atrocities of September 11, 2001.

They told him: 'We hate the Christians' and 'We hate the Jews', despite his attempts to stop them.

He said he filled out a Racist Incident Reporting Sheet but claimed headmistress Jill Hankey

dismissed his concerns. In a statement submitted to the Central London Employment Tribunal

he said: 'Miss Hankey proceeded to excuse and justify the pupil's behaviour, conduct and

remarks to me as if I had no right to be offended by the child's remarks and conduct.

'Amongst Miss Hankey's justifications for the child's remarks, she said, "If the child was older,

say 15, I might take it more seriously. He's only nine - he's only doing it to wind you up".'

He added: 'I felt the head's behaviour and conduct towards me amounted to direct religious

discrimination. I was intimidated in the way she spoke to me which indicated "Don't come back with such issues again".'

Mr Kafouris, a bachelor, said the comments became more frequent after the head did nothing about the initial incidents.

'In late November and December 2006, a number of unacceptable and blunt racist, anti-Semitic

and anti-Christian remarks were being made by various children in Year 4 where I taught, such as,

"The Twin Tower bombers are heroes and martyrs".

'Some children were expressing delight at the death and killing of people of other cultures and religions.

'In the last week of November 2006 a child was talking about stabbing another child and I told him

this was dangerous talk and that a lawyer had recently been stabbed by teenagers. His reply was,

"I'm glad that man died". "Why?" I asked. "Because he's a Christian and English and we're Muslim".'

He claimed that during a religious education lesson about Jonah and the whale, one of the pupils

asked if Jonah was a Jew, before shouting: 'I hate the Jews, they're our enemies.'

Mr Kafouris said he again tried to speak to Miss Hankey about it. 'The head's response was hostile

and offensive again. The very first thing she said to me was, "Oh, you again! You're the only teacher

that reports these things! Nobody else does!"

'Four times she repeated, "It's because of your lack of discipline that they're saying these things".'

Mr Kafouris was signed off with stress by his GP at the end of February 2007 after assistant head

Margaret Coleman warned him not to challenge the pupils in class about their remarks.

He says the lack of support from the school has made him clinically depressed and unable to work.

He was sacked in April last year. The case continues.

When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come.  My family lost everything. We are told again and again by 'experts' and 'talking heads' that Islam is the religion of peace and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the specter of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.
 
The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march...  It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout   Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is the fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor-kill.  It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.
 
The hard, quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the 'silent majority,' is cowed and extraneous.
 
Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China’s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.
 
The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.
 
And who can forget   Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were ‘peace loving’?
 
History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason, we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points:  
 
Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence.
 
Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don't speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.
 
Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.  As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts -- the fanatics who threaten our way of life.
 
Lastly, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious, AND DOES NOTHING, is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand.  So, extend yourself a bit and speak out against the slaughter!  Let us hope that thousands, worldwide, read this and think about it, before it's too late.

Newt Gingrich: A Single Nuke Could Destroy America

A sword of Damocles hangs over our heads. It is a real threat that has been all but ignored.

On Feb. 3, Iran launched a “communications satellite” into orbit. At this very moment, North Korea is threatening to do the same. The ability to launch an alleged communications satellite belies a far more frightening truth. A rocket that can carry a satellite into orbit also can drop a nuclear warhead over any location on the planet in less than 45 minutes.

Far too many timid or uninformed sources maintain that a single launch of a missile poses no true threat to the United States, given our retaliatory power.

A reality check is in order and must be discussed in response to such an absurd claim: In fact, one small nuclear weapon, delivered by an ICBM can destroy the United States by maximizing the effect of the resultant electromagnetic pulse upon detonation.

An electromagnetic pulse (EMP) is a byproduct of detonating an atomic bomb above the Earth’s atmosphere. When a nuclear weapon is detonated in space, the gamma rays emitted trigger a massive electrical disturbance in the upper atmosphere. Moving at the speed of light, this overload will short out all electrical equipment, power grids and delicate electronics on the Earth’s surface. In fact, it would take only one to three weapons exploding above the continental United States to wipe out our entire grid and transportation network. It might take years to recover from, if ever.

This is not science fiction. If you doubt this, spend a short amount of time skimming the Report of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse Attack from April 2008. You will come away sobered.

Even as the new administration plans to spend trillions on economic bailouts, it has announced plans to reduce funding and downgrade efforts for missile defense. Furthermore, the United States’ reluctance to invest in a modern and credible traditional nuclear deterrent is a serious concern. What good will a bailout be if there is no longer a nation to bail out? Fifty years ago, it was not Sputnik itself that sent a dire chill of warning around the world; it was the capability of the rocket that launched Sputnik. The rocket that lofted Sputnik into orbit also could have served as an ICBM.

Yet for all its rhetoric, the Soviet Union was essentially a rational power that recognized the threat of mutual destruction and thus never stepped to the edge.

The world is different today. Intercontinental range missiles tipped with nuclear weapons in the hands of leaders driven by fanaticism, leaders that support global terrorism, leaders that have made repeated threats that they will seek our annihilation . . . can now at last achieve that dream in a matter of minutes.

Those who claim that there is little to fear from Iran or North Korea because “at best” they will have only one or two nuclear weapons ignore the catastrophic level of threat we now face from just “a couple” of nuclear weapons.

Again: One to three missiles tipped with nuclear weapons and armed to detonate at a high altitude — to achieve the strongest EMP over the greatest area of the United States — would create an EMP “overlay” that triggers a continent-wide collapse of our entire electrical, transportation, and communications infrastructure.

Within weeks after such an attack, tens of millions of Americans would perish. The impact has been likened to a nationwide Hurricane Katrina. Some studies estimate that 90 percent of all Americans might very well die in the year after such an attack as our transportation, food distribution, communications, public safety, law enforcement, and medical infrastructures collapse.

We most likely would never recover from the blow.

Two things need to be done now and without delay:

1. Make clear in the strongest of terms that, if either Iran or North Korea launches a rocket on a trajectory headed toward the territory of the United States, we will shoot it down. The risk of not doing so is beyond acceptable. And if they construe this as an act of war, so be it, for they fired the first shot. The risk of sitting back for 30 minutes and praying it is not an EMP strike is beyond acceptable, beyond rational on our part.

2. Funding for EMP defense must be a top national priority. To downgrade or halt our missile defense program, which at last is becoming viable after 25 years of research, would be an action of criminal negligence.

Surely, with such a threat confronting us, a fair and open debate, with full public access and the setting aside of partisan politics, is in order. In the meantime, a policy must be stated today that we will indeed shoot down any missile aimed towards the United States that is fired by Iran or North Korea. America’s survival, your survival, and your family’s survival might very well depend on it.  

Netanyahu to Obama: Stop Iran—Or I Will

The message from Israel's new prime minister is stark: if the Obama administration doesn't prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, Israel may be forced to attack.

In an interview conducted shortly before he was sworn in today as prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu laid down a challenge for Barack Obama. The American president, he said, must stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons—and quickly—or an imperiled Israel may be forced to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities itself.

“The Obama presidency has two great missions: fixing the economy, and preventing Iran from gaining nuclear weapons,” Netanyahu told me. He said the Iranian nuclear challenge represents a “hinge of history” and added that “Western civilization” will have failed if Iran is allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

In unusually blunt language, Netanyahu said of the Iranian leadership, “You don’t want a messianic apocalyptic cult controlling atomic bombs. When the wide-eyed believer gets hold of the reins of power and the weapons of mass death, then the entire world should start worrying, and that is what is happening in Iran.”

History teaches Jews that threats against their collective existence should be taken seriously, and, if possible, preempted, he suggested. In recent years, the Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has regularly called for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” and the supreme Iranian leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, this month called Israel a “cancerous tumor.”

But Netanyahu also said that Iran threatens many other countries apart from Israel, and so his mission over the next several months is to convince the world of the broad danger posed by Iran. One of his chief security advisers, Moshe Ya’alon, told me that a nuclear Iran could mean the end of American influence in the Middle East. “This is an existential threat for Israel, but it will be a blow for American interests, especially on the energy front. Who will dominate the oil in the region—Washington or Tehran?”

Netanyahu said he would support President Obama’s decision to engage Iran, so long as negotiations brought about a quick end to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. “How you achieve this goal is less important than achieving it,” he said, but he added that he was skeptical that Iran would respond positively to Obama’s appeals. In an hour-long conversation, held in the Knesset, Netanyahu tempered his aggressive rhetoric with an acknowledgement that nonmilitary pressure could yet work. “I think the Iranian economy is very weak, which makes Iran susceptible to sanctions that can be ratcheted up by a variety of means.” When I suggested that this statement contradicted his assertion that Iran, by its fanatic nature, is immune to pressure, Netanyahu smiled thinly and said, “Iran is a composite leadership, but in that composite leadership there are elements of wide-eyed fanaticism that do not exist right now in any other would-be nuclear power in the world. That’s what makes them so dangerous.”

He went on, “Since the dawn of the nuclear age, we have not had a fanatic regime that might put its zealotry above its self-interest. People say that they’ll behave like any other nuclear power. Can you take the risk? Can you assume that?”

Netanyahu offered Iran’s behavior during its eight-year war with Iraq as proof of Tehran’s penchant for irrational behavior. Iran “wasted over a million lives without batting an eyelash … It didn’t sear a terrible wound into the Iranian consciousness. It wasn’t Britain after World War I, lapsing into pacifism because of the great tragedy of a loss of a generation. You see nothing of the kind.” [Editor’s Note: This is why President Obama’s words to the Iranian leaders, that claim we share the same values of the “preciousness of humanity”, were incorrect, and reveal a stunning misunderstanding of the worldview of the Iranian mullahs. They don’t share this value –even when it comes to their own people.]

He continued: “You see a country that glorifies blood and death, including its own self-immolation.” I asked Netanyahu if he believed Iran would risk its own nuclear annihilation at the hands of Israel or America. “I’m not going to get into that,” he said.

Neither Netanyahu nor his principal military advisers would suggest a deadline for American progress on the Iran nuclear program, though one aide said pointedly that Israeli time lines are now drawn in months, “not years.” These same military advisers told me that they believe Iran’s defenses remain penetrable, and that Israel would not necessarily need American approval to launch an attack. “The problem is not military capability, the problem is whether you have the stomach, the political will, to take action,” one of his advisers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told me.

Both Israeli and American intelligence officials agree that Iran is moving forward in developing a nuclear-weapons capability. The chief of Israeli military intelligence, Major General Amos Yadlin, said earlier this month that Iran has already “crossed the technological threshold,” and that nuclear military capability could soon be a fact: “Iran is continuing to amass hundreds of kilograms of low-enriched uranium, and it hopes to exploit the dialogue with the West and Washington to advance toward the production of an atomic bomb.”

American officials argue that Iran has not crossed the “technological threshold”; the director of national intelligence, Admiral Dennis Blair, said recently that Israel and the U.S. are working with the same set of facts, but are interpreting it differently. “The Israelis are far more concerned about it, and they take more of a worst-case approach to these things from their point of view,” he said. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Michael Mullen, recently warned that an Israeli attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities would undermine stability in the Middle East and endanger the lives of Americans in the Persian Gulf.

The Obama administration agrees with Israel that Iran’s nuclear program is a threat to Middle East stability, but it also wants Israel to focus on the Palestinian question. Netanyahu, for his part, promises to move forward on negotiations with the Palestinians, but he made it clear in our conversation that he believes a comprehensive peace will be difficult to achieve if Iran continues to threaten Israel, and he cited Iran’s sponsorship of such Islamist groups as Hezbollah and Hamas as a stumbling block.

Ya’alon, a former army chief of staff who is slated to serve as Netanyahu’s minister for strategic threats, dismissed the possibility of a revitalized peace process, telling me that “jihadists” interpret compromise as weakness. He cited the reaction to Israel’s unilateral withdrawal from Gaza four years ago. “The mistake of disengagement from Gaza was that we thought like Westerners, that compromise would defuse a problem—but it just encouraged the problem,” he said. “The jihadists saw withdrawal as a defeat of the West … Now, what do you signal to them if you are ready to divide Jerusalem, or if you’re ready to withdraw to the 1967 lines? In this kind of conflict, your ability to stand and be determined is more important than your firepower.”

They are being aided and abetted by the purveyors of political correctness - those in government, the media, academia and Hollywood who are apologists for Islamofascism, who outrageously blame America for the cruel and brutal actions of those who want to kill us and destroy our way of life.

Political correctness can be annoying, frustrating, even exasperating. In the battle against Islamofascism, political correctness will literally kill us.

MUSLIM INFLUENCE IN SCHOOLS UNCONSTITUTIONAL

produced by Interaction Publishers, Inc. In classrooms across the

United States, students who follow its directions find themselves

fighting mock battles of jihad against "Christian crusaders" and

other assorted "infidels." Upon gaining victory, our mock-Muslim warriors

"Praise Allah."

Is this a legal activity in American public schools? Interaction says

it merely urges students to "respect Islamic culture" through

identification with Islam. But the Thomas More Law Center, a

public-interest law firm based in Michigan, disagrees and last week

filed a federal lawsuit to prohibit one school district, in

Byron, California, from further using the Interaction materials on Islam.

On Tuesday January 20, two groups  have been directly hurt by radical,  militant Islam, Jewish and Hindus, will join forces to tell President Barack Obama, "Yes we can--and  must--defeat the jihadists." Calling themselves the Coalition for Peace, American Jewish and Hindu groups  along with Christians plan to demonstrate in Lafayette Park in front of the White House from 1-4:30pm. All their banners will essentially urge Mr. Obama to "protect the Free World  from radical Islam." To accomplish this, they say, the President, in the name of world peace, must  reform radical Islamist madrassas so that these schools stop teaching hate; seize Saudi assets in order  to pay for the Islamists' crimes against humanity; force Iran to halt its nuclear-weapons program that has  directly threatened Israel; and recognize that Pakistan has played a double-game with the US, presenting  itself as a friendly ally of America, while, at the same time, hosting terrorists who are plotting to murder  all non-Muslims, especially targeting their next-door neighbors in India. The demonstrators will point out that the same ideology that led to the  terrorism that struck Mumbai in November and, during the last ten years, resulted in the murder of some 18,000  Indians (60,000 terror incidents), has plagued Israelis for decades. One of the banners the ~indu'andJe  wish groups plan to hold will show Israeli soldiers trying to protect children, while Palestinian  terrorists hide behind a baby, using the infant as a human shield. "Islamist terrorism is a problem not just for Israel and India, but for the  entire Free World. It is also a problem for Muslims who yearn for freedom of thought, as opposed to the tyranny  imposed on them by Islamist theology," said Narain Kataria, of Queens, one of the organizers of the  protest. The demonstrators argue that radical, political Islam, fueled by oil revenues, "is nothing short  of a threat to humanity and freedom of thought." "It is absolutely essential for the US, the world's only  Super Power, to take the lead in exterminating terrorism from the face of the earth. Mr. Obama, yes, you can,"  said Mr. Kataria. The Coalition for Peace is inviting Jewish people to join their Hindu brethren  in this common cause. Those who wish to come to Washington the day before-Mon, Jan 19-may be able to access  free transportation and accommodations through the Coalition. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, made a final plea this week to President George Bush to commute the sentences of jailed U.S. Border Patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

“Because of the excesses of the prosecution against them, they will continue to sit alone in those cells for another decade,” Cornyn wrote, according to a report in the WorldNetDaily. “That is unless President Bush commutes their unjust sentences. In his remaining days as president, I ask President Bush to show mercy and use his clemency power to give back Agents Ramos and Compean the next 10 years of their lives.”

Cornyn joins Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and many other lawmakers who have written letters to Bush urging him to commute the agents’ sentences.

“I have reached the conclusion as a senator, a former judge, and a citizen, that the loss of their jobs and the prison time they have already served has been more than enough punishment,” Cornyn wrote. “This is a case of prosecutorial overreaching.”

Cornyn said Ramos and Compean were charged with a federal gun crime that many have argued was not meant to apply to law enforcement officers in the line of duty.

“As a result, the penalty levied on these men was grossly excessive,” he wrote.

Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, has also joined the ranks of the last-minute petitioners who must see their relief granted in the very few days until the end of President Bush’s term in office.

“These officers made mistakes, but their sentences were far too harsh. They have served enough time for their convictions,” Brady said, according to a report in the Montgomery County Courier. "President Bush needs to relieve these officers of the remainder of their sentences.”

Compean and Ramos were arrested following a shooting incident along the Rio Grande River in Texas on Feb. 17, 2005.

Mexican national Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila entered the country illegally in a van carrying 743 pounds of marijuana. When the two agents confronted him, he scuffled with them and tried to flee back across the border. The agents opened fire, hitting Aldrete-Davila in the buttocks, but but he continued to flee.

It is illegal for federal agents to fire upon fleeing felons or suspects. The agents later said they saw a shiny object in Aldrete-Davila’s hand they thought was a gun.

After a two-week jury trial, Ramos and Compean were convicted in March 2006 in federal court in El Paso on several charges, including assault with a deadly weapon, obstruction of justice — for failing to report the incident properly — and a civil rights violation. The agents were acquitted of the most serious offense, assault with intent to commit murder.

In October 2006, Ramos, who was nominated to be Border Patrol Agent of the Year, was sentenced to 11 years and one day in prison, and Compean received a 12-year sentence.

Aldrete-Davila was again caught smuggling marijuana while he was waiting to testify against the agents.

In February 2007, a gang of illegal immigrants severely beat Ramos while he was in prison,

and he and Compean were placed in solitary confinement for their own protection.

On Nov. 12, in a review of sentence required after the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals’

decided this year to drop one of the pair’s convictions, a federal judge in El Paso resentenced

 Compean to 10 years for using a firearm in the course of a felony and two years more for

assault and other charges, according to a report in the Houston Chronicle.

The next day, Ramos was resentenced to the same 11-year prison sentence originally imposed on him, the El Paso Times reported.
